How to taper off?

by ANNA165, Apr 01, 2008 03:51PM
TOPROL or METOLAR cause numb and/or tingling hands and feet etc.  "Stopping suddenly can cause a stroke or heat attack!"  How do you reduce gradually since it is the extended release type which should not be broken or crushed? The one I have (Metolar) has 165 tiny white pills in a gelatin capsule but the pills probably have different release times and they all look the same.

This discussion is related to Toprol Side effects after one year.

Fallow a plan that must be set by your doctor. If he does not agree, get an other doctor who will. The point is do not take chances to do it on your own, you have a right not to be on those pills, but without a good doctor it can be a hazard.

To: anyone
I was put on Topral XL just before Thyroid surgery as the surgeon
said that my ekg showed something wrong...sent me to heart
dr. who said there is nothing wrong with your ekg but I will
put you on Topral XL...called the pre-op nurse to ask her if
I could take it the morning of surgery and she said that was
no problem....well, I ended up in the ICU with only half of my
thryoid out as they had to stop surgery as my pressure
went way down...on respirator, etc., etc.,   no one will tell
me what happened....they now want to take the other half
of thyrid out and I am hesitant....
