I can feel my heart beating at night, but not so much during the day.

22 year old male. perfect resting pulse and blood pressure...all the time.

One night after drug use I had heart palpitations for 10 hours...then panic attacks for a couple of weeks and anxiety.

Now all of that is gone. Drug use is definately gone.  Cardiologist says my heart is normal and checks out ok.

However, this whole experience has made me very aware of my own heart beat. During the day I CANNOT seem to feel my heart beat while sitting still.  If I think about it real hard I might be able to barely feel my heart beating in my chest.

In the evening hours, if I am sitting still, my heart beat tends to beat with a bit more force, and I CAN feel it.  This gets aggravating, especially if I try to lay down and go to bed.

When I wake up in the morning, 9 times out of 10 I will NOT be able to feel my heart beat and so this relaxes me. As the day becomes night, however, I usually can start feeling it again.

Why?

It has been 2 months since I have had a cigarette, a drink of alcohol, or touched any drug.  In the future I would like to be able to have a drink here and there, but I just dont know....

I do still have some lingering anxiety about this whole thing.  I know that I am in perfect condition....however I do have mild waves of anxiety that come during the day and night.  The anxiety tends to come when I am sitting and not doing much and when I am not occupied doing something.  I just need to beat this anxiety....its the last step.  I dont know if anxiety is ever 100 percent beatable?  I am hoping I can beat it but I need some direction.

I would describe my anxiety as a "mild negative buzz in my head".

ignore the palpitations and night time heart beats....it's a vicious circle of noting the heart beats and then getting anxious because you are aware of them, which actually can speedthem up and make the whole experience more frightening....I have this same condtion, now after having had a ridiculous bypass surgery and it's taken some time to get my head around it...everything in my case is normal too, ie BP and pule rate...so try to simply block it out of your mind..adjust your body in bed to a postion where you can;t hear/feel the pulse...the night time awareness is just that and nothing more...day time awareness is not as pronouncedd because you're occupied with other things..at night, you;re dwelling on that old pounding heart...quit it!!!!! good luck......and, ativan can help relax you if you need to go that far...
