Isosorbide mononitrate question

Isosorbide mononitrate question

My GP has told me to take 10mg of isosorbide mononitrate twice daily, but with no times.  Looking at the Electronic Medicines Compendium, it says they should be taken to allow a nitrate-free interval (presumably overnight.)  Does this mean they should be at about 7am and 5pm rather than more evenly-spaced?  How do others handle it.

I have had a headache today - also a bit of chest pain.

I would check with your doctor.  There are 2 schools of thought.  Some doctors don't want an overnight interval, some do.  Some adjust it according to the individual patient.  Simply by prescribing it BID probably means that your doctor wants full even coverage, but I would check to make sure.

I've always been told to space the medication doses evenly over a 24-hour period.  But, in this case, I agree that checking with the doctor is best.

I take the same dose, along with the NitroQuick (If needed for angina) I take one as soon as I get up and the last one about the same time pm. Ex: 6am and 6pm. Haven't really had any bouts with angina since starting on Amiodarone for severe svts. Praise God!  But, I think we all agree, ask your doctor.
