Normal??

Okay, so I was just wondering about tachycardia and what your heart rate should be at the highest. Normally when I'm resting, its about 58-64, but one day i was just sitting there watching a pretty boring movie trying to fall asleep and I started having shortness of breath(sob) and chest pain(cp). I'm only 22 years old and heart problems run in my family. I've had atrial fibrillation before. I excercise, eat healthy, I'm not overweight (110). I wasn't too worried about the cp/ sob until i got palpitations and was tachycardic. I tried taking a radial pulse but couldn't find one, so I reached for my carotid and found my pulse to be 212. Anyone know what it could be and/ or if i should be worried??

With a family history of heart problems, and your occasional symptoms, you should have an EKG/ stress test to determine any irregularities and establish a reference for any future events, if any.

Especially since you're young and in good shape you can probably tolerate a high heartrate for many hours without a serious problem.

Yet next time you have such a high heartrate you should probably go to the ER immediately, so they can see what's up!

If your heartrate is back to normal now you should just call your general doctor and ask him to make an emergency appointment with a cardiologist for you.
Or maybe you should go to the ER anyway... I'm not sure.

"Should i be worried"...
Don't be affraid of dying, because even if you're going to die... being affraid is not going to help you at all.
