High Blood Pressure

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with Panic Attacks and put onto Rivotril "Klonapan" I think you call it in your Country. My blood pressure was high and the physician has put me onto 80mg of Tareq. Does anyone know if this has side effects, is it good?
My BP has always been low and suddenly 2 weeks ago, started getting high and I was getting panic attacks waking me up at night. Been on Rivotril for 3 days and it has brough blood pressure down, but Physician still wants me on blood pressure tabs for 6 months at least.
My symptoms were flushed face and feeling that I had incurable disease and was going to die.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you :-)

Hello, Di
Nice to meet you, too. -:).

What they call "normal" bp now is about 130-135/75-80.  I remember when it 120/70 was the "perfect b/p" .  I understand the low numbers -  mine used to be under 100 also (when I was younger -:)  ).

It sounds to me ( another lowly patient) that you might want to ask  your Dr. about being put on a heart "event monitor", due to the palpatations.  It's like a miniature ekg that you wear that has 2 leads and if you have a problem, you push a button and it records.  Then you send the recording via the telephone.  (it would all be explained to  you)  It gives your Dr. a chance to see what's going on with you when you are doing 'everyday stuff'.   Just an idea.

Living alone and having "problems" can be very stressful, but try not to stress too much.  I will keep you in my prayers and you keep in touch.  K?

Hi Geri,

Thank you for your comment here. Nice to meet you :-)
My blood pressure all my life was 90/60..then I started Karate and due to being made to stand in front of the class and do a kata and kicks, I started getting panicky. Since that day my blood pressure went up to 140/90...sometimes 160/95  and this stayed the whole day, no drop...I was on a monitor for 24 hours. The Dr put me onto Tareg 80mg once a day. I have only just started it yesterday, so today is day 2. my bp now is 140./90 and it's night time here....how long before it kicks in I wonder LOL
Also my bp seems to rise high at night...no reason, no stress, it just spikes at night...palpatations and feeling like I am going to die alone....I live by myself.

Is this bp ok do you think?

Take care

How high is "high"?   Panic attacks can scare the poopy out of you, but I have found that it helps it from getting worse if I can just slowly deep breathe. "Stressing" just seems to make it worse.  Sometimes easier to say than do, though.
I don't know what country you are in but my dr. here in the States has put me on a b/p product called "Coreg cg".  She has me on 40mg, once a day.  It also has a Beta Blocker to help with those attacks, ie: chest pressure, feeling of air being cut off, nearly blacking out. Since being on this new medicine, I can feel one start but only for about 2-3 seconds.  My b/p can be high in the early morning but as soon as I take my pill, (1), it will be in normal range within about 30min. or so.
I told knightrider about this medicine, also.  I'm not trying to sell the stuff but if it will help someone I will absolutely tell them about it. -:)

Good luck - stay in touch
