Rapid Heart beat

'm 18 years old and  I have a rapid heart beat sometimes I feel shortness of breath, left pain. I don't smoke, drink or use caffeine. I went to the doctor 6 months ago and I did EKG. my heat beat were 122, 136 etc and the highest was 144. he gave me atenelol and he said to use it at the morning and at night. I only use it at night 25 mg. and then I stopped ...now I use it only when I don't feel well. Is any problem with that? and do I have any serious problem , Should I do other tests for my heart or everything is normal ?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Check your heart rate, this will give an indication of the effects of your medications. Beta Blockers usually reduce the heart rate. Also, occasional palpitations are a common occurrence. But if the shortness of breath persists, have a stress test done. Certain systemic disorders like anemia, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies and thyroid disorders can cause these symptoms. Check with your doctor to rule out these conditions.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

The doctor  just gave me the medicine and he didn't say to me to use it regularly after  I finished the first box ( which maintains 10 aten corn) and I took some others myself and I used them only when I didn't feel well. My uncle who is a doctor ( not cardiologist ) says it's because of stress and it happens because of outside problems not inside ( which means not because my heart has any problem ) anyway I feel scared sometimes and I don't know what to think .  It's not that I feel bad everyday ..it happen 2 or  3  times a month and I most feel uncomfortable pain not a strong one.
Ps. Thank u for your answer.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Sinus tachycardia can occur with anemia, anxiety, hyperthyroidism, fever and dehydration. It may not be related to a cardiac disorder. Therapy depends on the cause. What was the reason for the increased heart rate? Why was aten given? Please don't venture to stop these medications without consulting your doctor.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
