The "Secret" is what I'm wondering. If I don't hear from anyone about not having any pain I can then assume what you suggested, cutting of all nerves, or the surgeon was -that good-. Don't know if it helps or not but the surgeon was also the only one they call for transplants. And also happened that my surgery was postponed because a donor was just found and he had to do his thing to find out if that heart was any good. I had no problem with being placed second to that, especially since I was stable at the time.
Any case, the question still stands... Is there anybody else who has not had any post bypass surgery pain?
I find it almost impossible to believe you felt no pain after surgery. They must have cut all the nerves that transmit pain or something because it really isn't normal. To have your sternum cut, pulled apart etc has to cause some discomfort. Like I said, I was in agony.
What is the secret?
Well I had a lot of pain after surgery through the healing process, at times I honestly believed I was never going to improve. Exactly one year after surgery everything seemed to stop hurting. No pain whatsoever and no numbness. I have a thin red line in the centre of my chest, virtually gone since I got some sun on it and three tiny scars at the base of my chest where the drainage tubes were. No bumps, lumps, they feel perfectly smooth and level with surrounding skin. If I beat on my chest like a gorilla (im not in the habit of doing that so please note) I feel no discomfort at all. So I think my nerves, bones and skin ended up healing very well.
