left ventricle thickening

My doctor said that my stress test a year ago showed left ventricle thickening.   The ventricle is operating at 88% of capacity.  I am now taking a low dose of blood pressure medication, but my doctor decided no further action is necessary as of the present.   It would set my mind at ease if I had another opinion about this.

Thank you for the response, and let us know the underlying cause for the 88% of capacity.

Dear Ken,

Thanks for your reply.   I can now ask my doctor what my EF is.   As of now, my doctor is not terribly concerned, so I guess time will tell.

Thanks again.

High blood pressure could be the underlying cause for the ventricle wall thickening. Sometimes reducing the heart's work load can reverse remodeling of an enlarged heart wall. Medication can/will dilate the system's vessels, thereby, reducing the resistance the heart pumps against and this relief can return the heart to normal size.

American Heart Association: "An EF higher than 75 percent could indicate a heart condition like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy". An EF is the percentage of blood pumped with each heartbeat...normal is 55 to 75%.

Hope this helps and thanks for sharing.
