I had catheter ablation for SVT/WPW in Sept./05. It was easy. You get a couple of needles and a little bit of "happy juice" and everything is a breeze. Once the doctors locate your acessory pathway they will stimulate it to make sure it is the right one - meaning they will turn the SVT on and off for a few minutes - not painful, but feels weird!

You are out of the hospital a few hours later, no problem. I am a whimp when it comes to that kind of stuff and it was easy, even though i stressed out for weeks. Good luck!

What type of svt do you have???

i had an ablation for AVNRT and it changed my life :) As anacyde already said, svt ablations are some of the most effective and well tolerated ablations out there :) Its a very easy procedure and honestly, the worst part about it was the anxiety i gave myself over it.

I know it's scary to go in to the hospital. I rarely go to the doctor except when I have to. Do you have a booklet explaining how it's done? That kind of helps but you probably want to know how it feels to be a patient in there. Went to the hospital, got the IV in, then I went to the cath lab. They carefully slipped off my hospital gown and covered me with blankets as they did that. Then they stuck various doodads on my body - large flexible mats (?) on my back and side plus all the little sticky dots that you usually get with an EKG. Then they started some meds in my IV that made me foggy. I really didn't care what they did at that point. Sometimes I could feel the tachy rhythm kick in but it wasn't bad. At some point they added more meds and I dozed off. The next thing I knew I was back in my room still feeling sleepy. I had to lie flat for a few hours till the little incisions closed up. Then got dressed and went home. I did wear goofy socks in for the procedure; it gave me a little sense of modesty. Plus I recommend having some soft boxer shorts to wear after since the incision sites will be bruised and a little tender. I felt a bit tired for a few days but went back to work. I'm like you when it comes to doctors and hospitals but I've had 3 ablations so it can't be too horrible, just very weird.

SVT ablations are among the most easy and effective!  That should ease your mind.  Quite a few members here have had them, and I've heard a lot of positive results.  Just wanted to send some good thoughts your way :)
