I had open heart surgery when I was 10 years old and now I am 32 years old. I had ASD repair. Is it really necessary for antibotic (antibiotic) before any dental work? I might just ask this forum just incase,on the docotor forum it was full today. I can not have any antibotic (antibiotic) orally due to stomach/intestinal problems and its becoming a hassle now just to get an appointment for infusion of antibotics to coinside with dental appointment just for dental work. I have heart rythm problem in which they are trying to find the cause of it and will be treated soon with ablation being that I can not take oral meds. Just trying to see if anybody knows anything. thanks shelly45
The guidelines for when to premedicate with oral antibiotics have changed in the past couple of years. Most (not all) patients can have dental treatment without premedicating. For a copy of the new guidelines, you can click on "Health Pages" (above right) and look for the link on the new guidelines. If you can't find the link, let me know and I'll get you there.
You bet! I had also been taking antibiotics for a long time, about 25 years. I was SO happy to see the guidelines were not as stringent and I no longer need to premedicate! HOORAY!! That stuff is tough on the stomach : (
