So what are your symptoms? Do the medications work to give you a better quality of life? Have they advised you on changes to make in your lifestyle?
The right coronary artery is usually pretty good at encouraging collaterals to open. These will give a cross feed, a natural bypass. 80% is pretty big, and making the right lifestyle changes could prevent this getting worse. I would try the medication, why? because bypass surgery has its disappointments too. Not all of them last as long as you would wish. Some last weeks, some months and some are lucky and get many years. There is no guarantee on how long they will last and no Doctor will know.
Just to also say, they are not Veins, they are arteries :)
IF you decide to go for bypass, then there is a way to greatly reduce the risk of it failing in a shorter period of time. Ask the Cardio surgeon to check your LIMA and RIMA vessels in your chest. They basically lay across your chest and can be used in your bypass. They are Arteries and not veins which are usually harvested from your leg. Arteries are much stronger than veins and can tolerate the pounding much more. My bypass failed after 3 months, two veins closed up. However, the LIMA (artery) is still fully open.
In the UK, when a bypass is done on the left main artery, it is usual practice to graft 2 vessels, one is really a backup. If you have 2 arteries grafted to this vessel, rather than one with a vein, it will last much much longer.
Thank you very much for very reply.
