Hmm I don't know about that being an esophageal spasm.  Those are EXCRUCIATINGLY painful.  I have them.  And no they don't pose any immediate risk.  The cause of them may pose a risk, usually excess stomach acid which can increase your cancer risk years down the road.

That fluttering, I get that too, and I think it is a surface muscle spasm.  Ever get that in a finger, or an eyelid?  Chances are it has absolutely nothing at all to do with your heart and I wouldn't worry unless it's accompanied by symptoms.

Sounds like esophogeal spasm to me - I have been diagnosed with this.  The gullet is so close to the heart it really feels like it is your heart that is twitching.

Drink a glass of really cold water - it really works, in minutes if it is the gullet.

is this spasm thing serious? ... I've had it for a bit, and I've never had a reason to tell anyone, as I've never seen it written.  I thought that I was the only one.

oh, i really hope you get some good responses on this one!!  i have had this too, a kind of weird "vibration" in the middle of my chest.  and...my pulse is usually normal.  at least it is now.  when it first started happening i think i would panic and know it is just there for a few seconds and goes away.  i have noticed, however, that a couple times my right had will "twitch" too.  not always, but sometimes.

i've looked a lot online about it and it's really NOT a good idea.  i have mentioned it to my doctor (cardio) and he is not concerned based on my year long cardiac workup.  My GP has said a number of things from colon spasm, esophageal spasm, muscular spasms (twitching) or inflamed nerves.

anyone else???
