Hi there,
I would get a second opinion if it were me. Don't let this doctor dismiss your symptoms and not give you any more information. Does your pcp recommend another cardiologist you can go to? I'd follow up with a different cardio dr. for sure.
Case in point...I had rapid heart rates up to 180 bpm and my original dr. told me to go home, relax and enjoy my kids. She said just ignore it. Um, not really helpful was she? Well, I thought it sounded "fishy" too so I went to reputable cardiologist my other dr. recommended and she said I needed Atenolol to keep my heart from racing like that. It has worked beautifully for me. Good luck finding someone else and gettting some answers. Best wishes and hang in there!

Wasn't Zelnorm just removed from the market because of cardiovascular risks? That's the IBS drug, correct?
If you're still taking it, I would look into that. Perhaps that is the cause of your rapid pulse despite the Toprol.
Yes,zelnorm was pulled from the market sometime last week. I got off zelnorm in Dec and started using something else. He does not believe that I was using it more like he does not believe it was recalled also. My pcp gave me another referral to a cardiologist who deals with electrical system and achd because of my back ground history of heart problems. She was upset that he did nothing being that I was on zelnorm. I see her tomorrow. I am still taking toprol until the new cardio changes it or does something different. I see the new cardio next week and the office staff had to ask cardio if I should wait until the end of May,thats when the next new patient appointment was available and he said to come in next week instead being that this can't wait too long due to my history and zelnorm. I was happy that I got in next week and don't have to wait that long. I also have a family history of fast heart rate on my mother side of the family and most of them are on meds or have pacemaker. My old cardio said this does not count towards me. So we'll see what happens next week at my appointment.
