ekg said sinus tachcardia and possible left atrial enlargement

by sher053086, Jan 27, 2007 12:00AM
hi
im 20 years old and for about a monh now i have been having a fast heart rate never goes below 100bpm rythem is good though. they had me wear a heart monitor for 24hours and it was 57bpm-154bpm it hasnt went over 154bpm that i know of. they also did a ekg and it came back saying sinus tachcardia and possibel left atrial enlargment what does left atrial enlargment mean? is it dangerous? Could me having the possible left atrial enlargment be making me have sinus tachcardia? the cardiologist nor the docters realy havent said anything about the left atrial enlargment they are only talking about the fast heart rate. the cardiologist wasnt to worried about the fast heart rate he said that i was young and could handle it. as long as there wasnt anything wrong with my heart that is causing the fast heart rate which he is giving me an echo feb5 and i guess ill find out more then. i guess all i can do now is quit worring and put it in gods hands if you guys dont care prey for me.
and please answer me back i can use all the information i can get.
thanx in advance

The EKG machines have sort of a "brain."  They print out potential causes, diagnoses, etc. based on your tracing. If your doctor is not concerned, it's probably because the computer made an assumption, and your doctor doesn't agree.  Many of my EKG's have generated incorrect computer-based "assumptions."  It's best to listen to your doctor.
