elevated heart rate when standing

My 87 year old mother has been in the hospital for over a month and has mostly been bed ridden for the past two weeks, the nurses came in to have her try and stand up and she could not stand and her heart rate started racing, is this normal?

She has been in and out of the hospital with constant diarrhea and vomiting that has yet to be diagnosed and in this last hospitalization she went into heart failure.

Could you please state why your Mother has been in bed for 2 weeks. It will really help because it may be related.
