I'm only familiar with total cholester, high density cholesterol, low density cholesterol and the importance of the ratio.  Overall, it seems as though your husband's medicine is bringing down his total cholesterol.  Was his HDL low before the medication?  Does the doctor feel his HDL will improve?

How does the doctor explain the elevated ALT?  I think that is a liver function test and it's one of the tests that is monitored with certain cholesterol lowering medications.

Excercise (with doctor's apporval) is good for overall heart health.

I don't know much about cholesterol, can't keep them all straight. Mine is always fine so I ignore it (lucky me). But I'll bump this up so others can see it again. I'm sure someone understands the cholesterol issue.

Bump.
