heart surgery and dry cough

Had mitral valve repair two weeks ago and within last week have developed chronic dry cough which prevents me from speaking.  Any insights?

You should see your cardiologist as soon as possible.  A chronic or acute dry cough can be an indication of low cardiac output, and blood is backing up into the lungs causing fluid to leak into the lung tissues.  It would be consistent with failed MV, or the system is not adjusting well to the new valve.

My father has  Mitral Valve repair and five bypasses  on Oct 4, 2011. He has chronic dry cough, he cannot sleep last night. Has hardtime breathing when lay down. He got discharged from hospital fifth day of his surgery.
I took him to hospital 2-3 times after surgery they said his lungs sounds ok so there is no need of x-ray. Any insights
