low hdl

I am very frightened by my recent cholesterol tests.. Although my total was 148.    ldl was 100 triglycerides were 52 which are all normal i think, my hdl was only 37.... I am a 37 year old female and I am wondering if Have heart disease or if I am on the verge of a heart attack.. The doctor acted as if it was no big deal but everything I read says low hdl is the worst to have even if your cholesterol is normal.. I am afraid to walk or do anything now as I think i am going to drop..  I am so un a tizzy I want a cardiac cath done but I know my doc wont do it

Normal hdl is considered 40 - 60, so you are barely in the low area.  Your ldl-hdl ratio is very good.  I'm betting you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Hdl levels increase with aerobic exercise, and also Omega 3 fish oil will raise hdl levels as well.
