3 Ablations Later - Skipped beats after exercise

I am a 49 year old male and have atrial fibulation for 15 years.  Initially, AF was infrequent and short in duration but as time when on they become more frequent and longer lasting.  I had been on Toprol and then Toprol and Rythmol (225, 325 & 425mg)   I had my first RF Ablation 2 years ago.  On my first ablation my EP fixed my atrial fibulation but I then developed atrial flutter.  It took two more RF Ablations to make the Atrial Flutter go away. I have been off all meds for about a year now.  I have recently discovered skipped beats and a little racing heart during several of my tennis matchs.  If I sit down and rest they go away.  I am in very good shape at 6'3" and 205 lbs and get lots of exercise. I am hoping this is just a quirk and never comes back but it has shortened three of my matches this season already.  Any thoughts as to whats going on?

I have taken Rhymol and have a real hard time exercising. I get winded real quickly and body aches after even minimal effort. I had an ablation done one month ago and am also experiencing skipped beats. I also have a similar make-up--6'3" and 185.  It is frustrating trying to stay fit with these issues.

I have to go see my EP and have him figure this out.  As Sweetwater guy says, those of us with heart issues tend to notice them more.  These episodes were certainly more then a couple of skipped beats.

According to my EP, skipped and/or extra beats are common in the general population.  Those of us with heart issues tend to notice them more.
How this might relate to your issues, however, is a good topic of discussion with your doctor.

Hello...

Having been through 4 ablations myself, I can relate to the feelings you are probably experiencing. Feelings of discouragement are not uncommon. But, 3 ablations later and having been off all meds for a good year...the chances of this truly being recurrence are low.

Occasional skipped beats are common in everyone, even without a history of Atrial fibrillation. By themselves, it is not an indication of recurrence of atrial fibrillation or the need for further ablative therapy. Frequent exacerbations and remissions of symptoms are common. I think in your case it's wise to be aware of possible triggers of your episodes and return to your EP if they worsen. Don't loose hope...there are always options:) This is what my EP tells me
