Afib after ablation for AVNRT...worried

I had an ablation five weeks ago for AVNRT. One week ago I had my first ever episode of Afib that required a trip to the emergency room. I'm back on Metaprolol because my cardiologist says it will quiet my heart while I continue to recover. My electrophysiologist didn't think the Afib had anything to do with healing from the ablation.

Has anyone else ever had an Afib episode after ablation for a different type of arrhythmia? I super stressed out listening to my heart rate every second to see if everything is normal.

I too had some kind of weeklong ectopic storm 7 months after my ablation.  Merely walking across a room would cause havoc with my rhythm.  I don't know what it was, but it vanished as quickly as it began and never returned.  There have been a couple of forum members who reported post ablation A-fib.  But I think it's rare.  I felt these occurrences were uncovered and not caused by the ablation.  In those members, I don't recall the outcome.

Hi, I am 5 weeks post AVNRT ablation as well. I went to the ER with an unknown episode that lasted a couple of hours. The EKG showed Afib as well. I am wondering if this is irritation and part of the healing process or unmasking of a new arrhythmia. I have to talk to my EP to see what's going on. I am also back on Metoprolol. Sigh...

I had an ectopic storm of some sort 5 weeks after my ablation for avnrt for about a week.  I did not go to the ER because the doctor said to wait and see if it settles down so I can't say if it was afib or not, could have been.  Whatever it was it did settle down on its own and I never had another episode like that again.  I did have pretty frequent ectopic beats for a year afterwards and still get them to this day but not as many or as often.  It takes a while for the ablation to heal and for your heart to recover from years of svt so try not to fret.  It is possible with some time your heart will recover from having any issues with afib.  Try to not panic and give your heart some time to recover.  Stressing about it is just going to make matters worse.  Feel better soon.
