Both my cardiologist and consulting EP require hospitalization to start that drug. I think they are very conservative, but that can be good, I guess.
Even when I was put on Rythmol SR 425 mg twice a day it was done while I was on a monitor.
I have been on/off Propafenone without any hospital stays.
I have never agreed to try any of the super power drugs, I just live with my AFib using beta blocker for HR slowdown.
correction I will be taking 2 pills a day for 30 days
I had a catheter ablation on Feb 4th 2010 for Atrial Fibrillation. I have had a couple of afib episodes since then. I am currently taking Tikosyn and the doctor doesn't think that it is working anymore. I have been on it for 1 year. He wants me to start Amio tomorrow. Have been off Tikosyn since Monday. I am scared to take Amio by things that I have read. I will be taking 2 twice a day for 30 days and then cut down to 1 a day after that. I have read that it needs to be started in a hospital setting, but I guess the Ep knows what he is doing with this medicine.
My Dad did, 2 times. The first time he stopped after a few days just because he didn't like it. The second time he agreed to take it because his heart failure was getting so bad none of the other drugs helped and his ICD kept firing off a few times a week. He finally got the message that he needed the Amio and took it faithfully. Perhaps because he had the ICD they didn't feel a need for him to start the med under close supervision. Don't know.
