I see a cardiologist on tuesday. Guess I'll get some answers then and will sit down and let you know what I find out.
You're right that's what they consider the normal to be- 60-100 BPM. I would think the average would likely land somewhere in that same range, unless you are a highly active guy. But it does sound like your heart must beat faster part of the day to come up to 59 as the average. Did they do a percentage for you on how much time you experienced bradycardia in the 24 hours? For me time before this last time I got one, they said I had tachycardia above 120 for so much percentage of time of a 48 hour holter monitor.
Got my results back and am scheduled to see a Cardiologist next tuesday.
The EKG came out abnormal due to the fact it showed my heart rate at 40. The holter monitor registered my heart at a steady 28 while sleeping. For the entire 24 hours I wore the monitor my heart rate averaged 59. I've always read that they consider a normal resting heart rate to be between 60-100. Does anybody know what a 24 hr. average should be?
Will be seeing Cardiologist next week to get his knowledge on all of this.
Thank you everyone for sharing your experience and support.
I believe God loves to answer the prayers of His people. I just prayed for you, John. Please let us know how things go?
Ishould hear from my MD tomorrow as to the results as given by a cardiologist. I'm somewhat scared to find out what they say but perhaps it is time to establish with a cardiologist and get all this taken care of. Thank you for all your replies and advice. I will post as I hear.
For all of you that believe in Prayer please keep me in your prayers until I get this taken care of.
John
Regarding surgery, I hope it will be a comfort to you to know none of us will die a single day before it's appointed for us by God Himself. Of course, if I were in your shoes, I'd probably be researching to make sure I got the best surgeon in the area, if any type of surgery was deemed necessary & asking people to pray. Please do keep us posted!
I've had a low heartrate since I was a kid. It runs in our family, however, I have the lowest of everyone. I saw my MD yesterday. She took an EKG and I am wearing a holter monitor now. When all is done everything will be sent to a cardiologist for review. Guess it is time to get serious about all of this. I will keep everyone posted on how things go. Thank you everyone.
If in fact you have a resting heart rate of 28, it is TOO LOW. I suddenly developed bradycardia several years ago, having a heart rate of 28bpm also. I had a pacer implanted within 2 days. You definitely need to see a cardiologist or an electrophysiologist soon. You do not want to wait for a situation to occur when you pass out while you are driving because you heart rate slowed down. Call the doc today.

My heart rate has been measured numerous times by Dr. I've been hospitalized a couple of times but they can never find anything wrong. My EKG says abnormal. They cathed by heart a couple of years ago and still no result.I guess I am confused, is it possible that I just have a layed back heart? My M.D. wants me to go to a Cardiologist again for another work up. I guess what I'm worried about the most is that Heart attacks run in my family and mom died shortly after having an elective heart surgery.
Who recorded your heart rate and by what method? If it was done by a physician, they should have referred you to a cardiologist! Some athletes can get as low as 24-48 beats a minute at night, one website mentions, and another mentions a cyclist with a resting heart rate around 32 beats per minute. However, with your heart rate and symptoms, this is DEFINITELY a problem that needs to be addressed! I hope you can get to a cardiologist quickly to do a work up on your heart & get you proper treatment- things like an echocardiogram to check the structure and function of valves and a holtor monitor, if they have not yet done these things and then proper treatment for your problem(s).
