Exessive Yawning

I would like to know if anyone else experiences excessive yawning.  This happens to me at least 3-4 times per day where I experience extreme yawning.  I get about 1-4 yawns per minute and they last anywhere from 5-30 minutes or so.  These are extremely irritating and annoying to me as they make my eyes water and drip, etc. etc.  I am curious to know if anyone has any thoughts on what could be the cause of these.  It seems I have always had a little problem with yawning, especially when in a car, however it has become so frequent and bothersome that I really would like to find a way to put an end to it.  Any advice is very welcome.  Thanks

I have not read anything on spontaneous yawning, I think of it as a voluntary thing, albeit sometimes I feel like I need to yawn.

I have read somewhere that yawning can be stimulated by a need for oxygen.  Try deep breathing for a few breaths to see if that makes the yawning urge subside.

Could it be related to your heart?  Possible, but no direct connection that I know of.  Do you have a regular and "normal" heart beat?  Example, a rest HR in the range 60-80 beats per minute, and regular in rate and intensity is what I have in mind for "regular".  If not there maybe a relationship to the need to yawn, you should consider discussing with you primary care doctor.
