This condition is common and probably benign. But very frightening, I am sure. I would go to your family physician and express your concerns and take his advice as to a direction to take. He will ausculate your heart sounds and will know if there are abnormalities and, if he believes it necessary, prescribe appropriate tests. There are several possible causes, a few of which may be an issue, but the chances are good you don't have something seriously wrong. You need a work-up at a medical facility to provide a definitive answer.
I'll be 43 in a week and 2 days, Nov 3 and I have had this from time I can remember , I take a beta blocker and even when my heartrate is 60 I'm still aware of every beat , apparently its just part of my anatomy and that i'm very sensitive to my heartbeat, some people develop this , other apparently are aware from birth, it is usually a benign but very uncomfortable condition. Be well, just check with your doc to be sure.

How is your blood pressure? Before I was put on BP meds my heart at times used to pound real hard, I could see it beating in my throat, even feel a strong heart beat on the top of my head.
