A few weeks ago, I had eaten some edibles with cannabis in them. During the trip, I was having strong palpitations, no doubt from the cannabis, but also because I was anxious at the time and have been suffering from nearly persistent anxiety for a couple years now.
I went to lay face down on my bed, when my heart rate suddenly became extremely fast and erratic for about 4 or 5 seconds before it slowed down somewhat into very, very forceful palpitations. This scared me to death, amplifying my anxiety ten-fold. I had to take some klonopin to calm myself down, but even with the klonopin, my palpitations were EXTREMELY forceful for the rest of the night, until I fell asleep.
Ever since then, my palpitations have been very strong, and I have been having many "extra" heartbeats over the course of the day. Despite the fact that I have had palpitations from anxiety for a long time now, I have never experienced extra heartbeats. These extra heartbeats scare me because of how frequently they are occurring. Sometimes there will be two in a row. I am also getting random, short dull pains around my chest (typically around the heart area) and back throughout the day.
My main concern is how forceful my palpitations have been since this episode, plus the irregular heart rate. Is it possible that I had a heart attack, or was it simply just a panic attack and my anxiety has since gone into overdrive?
I will add that there have been two other instances in the past where my heart rate out of nowhere became extremely fast and chaotic for a short period of time (3-5 seconds), but they did not give me lasting concerns like this.
