Hi,

Fascinating. I tried to find the Wondering Pacemaker but was unsuccessful. I see I need to get some refreshers on the English Language.

Wander, a word I would have no doubt used inappropriately had I had the chance to spell it. Similar in pronunciation to Wonder, but meaning "Move about aimlessly or without any destination, Go via an indirect route or at no set pace, and To move or cause to move in a sinuous, spiral, or circular course". Every day is a learning opportunity.

I downloaded a PDF from the American College of Chest Physicians. It describes the ultimate Wandering Pacemaker. A patient, a 55 year old man, had a pacemaker implanted for a specific condition. Early post op tests were ok, but the man came back to the Pacemaker Clinic, complaining of a persistent twitch in his left leg which began several days earlier. The twitching only occurred when he was sitting, making driving difficult. An X Ray (they said Fluoroscopic Examination) revealed that his implanted pacemaker was missing from the area where they expected to find it. It was located in his lower abdomen, and with surgery (uncomplicated they said), they were able to recover the rascal and put it back in place. It does not give the year of the incident, but provides additional information about the type of Pacemaker that may reveal when this incident happened.

This truly was a wandering pacemaker.

You did nice research on the Wandering Pacemaker, I think I'll spend more time reading about it.

Several sites that I visited said that the Wandering Pacemaker, in itself,  may not be serious. (I do not know what other conditions may contribute to a Wandering Pacemaker).

Best of health.

I think your client may mean a "wandering pacemaker."  Here is the definition given by wikipedia:

"This atrial arrhythmia occurs when the natural cardiac pacemaker site shifts between the SA node, the atria, and/or the AV node. This shifting of the pacemaker from the SA node to adjacent tissues is manifested electrocardiographically by transient changes in the size shape and direction of the P waves. A wandering pacemaker is usually caused by varying vagal tone. With increased vagal tone the SA Node slows, allowing a pacemaker in the atria or AV Nodal area, which may become slightly faster briefly. After vagal tone decreases the SA Node assumes pacemaker."

The online medical dictionary states that a wandering pacemaker is:
"A disturbance of the normal cardiac rhythm in which the site of the controlling pacemaker shifts from beat to beat, usually between the sinus and A-V nodes, often with gradual sequential changes in P waves between upright and inverted in a given ECG lead.

Synonym: shifting pacemaker.:"
