oh wow sorry my mind is mush really lol
that should NOT say niacin - Vitamin B12 liquid form is what I take or sublingual form
great to hear =)
the other thing is to ask about niacin for the PN which may have caused the leg cramps - it's sooo painful and it may just be a side effect of the potassium that may heal with the right treatment; I've been taking it for about a year (liquid form) and it has helped in my case but make sure you ask her doctor about it and if they think it will help
Thank you Lisa. I did speak with my mother about eating bananas. She can eat half a banana. They; tend to upset her stomach. Not sure what to do next. You would think potassium would help leg cramps not cause them.
RNRita glad you pointed that out! ugh I shouldn't post before my brain wakes up :P
Hmmm, that's a reaction I've not seen. My doctor told me that I was getting leg cramps at night (possibly) because of low potassium levels.
I take potassium tabs twice a day (to balance out the sodium in my diet, (even though I've been good and cut way back on prepared n fast foods).
As was suggested, look for foods your mom likes, which are good sources of potassium.
Here's one list I found:
http://www.weightlossforall.com/potassium-rich-food.htm
And a banana contains about 14 grams of sugar so it is a great idea if she isn't diabetic!
I think it was something like 15% of daily potassium so it doesn't add up to me, but I've read others do it and it's a great source of fiber. The average banana contains a whopping 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium, a banana a day may help to prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis, but beware bananas have been known to lower blood pressure.
again, mention to her doctor about this before trying it
