Coughing is often the biggest symptom in asthmatic attacks, and asthma can be triggered even in non-allergic people by a viral or bacterial infection.  Ask me how I know--after a visit to the ER in a foreign country for my first acute ashma attack.

The treatment for this involves a "rescue inhaler" (probably the 'blue one' your daughter is using several times a day) but ALSO a steroid inhaler for long term control, plus steroid pills for a couple of weeks, and an antibiotic if the doctors suspect bacterial infection.

Since your daughter is being treated for asthma, it would be a good idea for you to check out the asthma forum here:

Take your daughter to see a pediatric pulmonologist; he would be able to help her if there is a lung issue going on.

4 different antibiotics in the past 3 weeks? That doesn't sound right or good. Did they do a chest x-ray to see if her lungs were clear? I don't have any answers, just thoughts and none of them would be helpful. Dark stools could be caused by something she's been eating, too much iron in her diet, or bleeding in the digestive track. I would recommend making an appt. with a doctor again to have her checked. ER's/A.E.'s tend to be rushed and they may miss something.
