Many people are put on more than one bp med. If you are only borderline, I don't see why just one isn't enough. When my heart slows down, I tend to get more PVCs. When we lie down at night and relax, we complain about them. It is because our hearts are slowing down for sleep, I believe. Hockey, you need to have a work up. Just because you USED to be an athlete shouldn't make your heart low now. The 60's is normal anyway, though. If you get dizzy with this, get checked.
But if Atenolol slows the heart down, i Don't want that.....
Yes it is. This is why I am puzzled?
Unless the Atenolol calms the PVC's?
isn't Atenolol a BP med to begin with?
I don't know but your story sounds the same as mine.
I weight in 209lbs, but I am borderline High Blood pressure too. Before the Meds I used to get palpitatons and energy rushes. My face got hot and I would sweat a lot. I had all the tests done and I came back with an excellent heart. Only after the 48-hour holter I was told I had too many PVC's(extra beats). I was put on Atenolol, I noticed last night after taking it my pluse went down really low around 40-58 bpm and the palps started again, I had a small panic attack and my blood pressure went up only for a bit.
I don't know why I was placed on Atenolol ontop of my Blood pressure medication.
I think obesity/high blood pressure/ panic/Anxiety play a huge roll in palpitations. I am always thinking and I can never relax due to my high stress job. This only started 3 months ago when I was 230lbs.
Also in the past I used to get rushes when I drove, or got angry. The palps would get worse.
I might get a second opinion on my case.
Keep me updated!!
Did you play hockey in the past? Hockey athletes are supposed to be some of the most cardiovascularly fit athletes. Do you take any meds that would drive your heart rate down? I might be concerned with the response your body gives to bring up the heart rate. Your doctor's comment on this, but haven't made any recommendations? Have they mentioned bradycardia (slow heart rate)? May want to consider trip to cardiologist. If you are overweight, may be time to consider some lifestyle changes, losing weight. This may help lower blood pressure. And exercise. Perhaps these two can take care of problem. Sorry I can't give you any more, my heart rate is a little fast and I am taking 25 mg Atenolol for this. Make sure you investigate any meds before Dr. tries to give you some, as may end up taking for life and they can have side effects. Hope everything turns out well.
