More PVC's or PAC's due to pain?

by bundleblocker, Jan 14, 2009 09:16AM
I strained my groin muscle during a race last Saturday. It was pretty painful so had to drop out and be driven back to the start.

It is still very sore and I'm having difficulty walking.

I checked my pulse just for the heck of it and noticed a lot of "piggyback" PVC's (or maybe they are PAC's?)

Could this be due to the pain in the leg? Or rather the stress because of the pain?

I'm taking Ibuprofen, though the pharmacist said it is not a good idea while on Metoprolol, but if I don't take it all the time there shouldn't be a problem.

Could the interaction between the Meto and the Ibu be causing the palpitations?

Just wondering!

Hey there, I just wanted to comment because I also love to run races and am very active and have these damn pvc's that have even been making me not exercise sometimes because I'm living in constant fear. I started taking Metoprolol a little over a week ago and I don't know what to think about it. What is the name of the company you are getting this generic from? I did some research and found that Toprol doesn't approve the generic from any lab other than Par. I have some from Ethex and I've read hundreds of people posting online about having horrible side effects. I just don't know what to do though because I am afraid if I just quit taking it I'll have more pvc's but at the same time I'm getting a lot now. How long have you taken it? How has your experience been with it? Sorry I don't know enough to make a connection with what is causing your pvc's.

I have been taking Metoprolol since 12/4/08. The company is Asta/Zeneca.

It was prescribed for my Afib; doesn't do anything for the PVC's.  I rarely get PVC's when running, or at least I'm not aware of them.

The side effects of the Metoprolol is tiredness and depression. Because I get depressed, I eat and so have gained about 8 lbs. Not good!

I also have very weird dreams which means I don't feel rested in the mornings.

Depression, Weight Gain and Weird Dreams are all common side effects according to the insert that came with the pills.

I really would like to steop taking Metoprolol. I have only had 3 episodes of Afib since starting them, but one episode lasted all night.  If I tell the doc I don't like the side effects he will probably just put me on something stronger.

The depression is the worst thing - it is probably caused by the tiredness. I can't do as much as I'm used to, so I get depressed, then I eat, then I feel guilty, etc. etc.

I see my internist in a couple of weeks, will see what he says. My cardiologist is almost impossible to get a hold of which is another irritant.

Sorry for all the whining----

Ah so you have the good stuff, not what I have haha. I don't usually notice any pvc's while running either but I get a lot of them while at rest. Do you get many at rest? Did you have the pvc's before the A Fib? Sorry for all the questions just curious!

I have had PVC's off and on for about 10 years.  After the first time, after a stress test, I didn't feel them for about 5 years. The last couple of years they have been getting more frequent.

But I'm a lot older than you, 72, and my doc says irregular heart beats (of all types) are very common (though not normal) after age 60.

To me the PVC's are not nearly as scary as the Afibs.
