Oh those silly beats again.

I have made a few posts about this over the last couple of years.  I had (again) an episode where i would feel a couple of thuds, then what "Seems" like a long pause, right back into a normal beat.  The pause seems like a good 2-3 seconds.  i dont feel lightheaded or anything during the pause.

I have read that a pause after a PVC can be longer than a normal beat depending on when the beat happened ect.

It seems i have had 6-7 of these episodes over the last 5 or so years.  Over those 5 years i have had 5 normal ekg visits from my heart doctor.  and the most recent one he told me im now on a "as needed" basis, instead of every year

am i over thinking things?  could i be hitting my pulse at a moment when it could feel long?

kinda funny thing happened.  It happened again but i started to think, sometimes when i catch my regular HB, i catch it at the moment after the beat and it feels like theres a long wait before i feel the next, but i know i did not have a skip

Could it be i am catching the second the PVC happens making the pause seem much longer?  What i think is i am catching the PVC + the pause making it feel longer

i guess im worrying about nothing

In the absence of any concerning symptoms like severe or squeezing chest pain, an inability to breath or passing out then it is likely whatever it is, is not of great concern. Obsessing or otherwise fretting over every heart beat will surely bring on more of them.  I know it is hard but you must try to force yourself to switch your focus from your heart to other things.  Your heart can handle what is going on.  if you notice things escalate then go back to the doctor but I suspect you would not have to worry about such a thing for many many years to come when you would need to see a doctor for normal age related issues.  take care.

My take is that you are very focused on the pause. I could try to explain that at the risk of making you overthink it more.   It's not really a pause though.  It's a timing issue.  When a PVC occurs, the normal source for the heart beat is still going along like a metronome.   When a PVC occurs it overrides one of these and he ventricles have to wait for he next one, which people feel as a longer wait in their pulse and call it a pause.  Technically it's not a pause at all, more like a reset.  .   I'll try to draw it out below.  This might not look right.

SA = normal signal from the SA node
P= PVC (will feel a pulse)
A=Normal pulse

SA---------SA----------SA----------SA----------SA--------SA
-----A----------A-----P-------------------A-----------A----------A

That extra beat messes up the metronome, but it's still going.  The "pause" young should be able to see there is the result of the muscle resetting for the next normal beat.   Hope that helps.   Don't over think it.

you are right, over thinking it could be bad.

I have had another normal EKG with no abnormalities.  If i truly had something serious, you think it would be happening more often.

I did have short pvc's today and i felt one that seemed again, longer, than normal.  but i was sitting down and my heart rate a few minutes later had been about 65 bpm.  i guess the two hand fulls of times its happened since 2010 tells me to more pvc related than anything
