Post-Ablation Question

A question for those of you who've already had ablations.

For nearly three years before I had my ablation, I used to get really bad heartburn at least 3-4 times a week.....so bad that it used to wake me out of a sound sleep and I'd be rummaging in the medicine cabinet for antacids around 2-3 am.

Since the ablation (nearly 3 weeks ago), I've noticed that I'm not getting heartburn anymore......only one heartburn episode the weekend after ablation....and that was because I ate a huge meal.  Other than that, none.

Did anyone else have heartburn that stopped after your ablation?

Were you possibly taking a beta blocker or other reflux-causing medicine before your ablation?  I don't take a beta blocker because it's hard on the stomachs of many people, especially those prone to acid reflux. Just wondering.

Yes, I had been taking a beta blocker for 10 years before the ablation.  I'm on a very reduced dosage until I see the doctor next week, then I go off it for good.

I hadn't realized beta blockers caused stomach problems.....that is probably the reason I don't have the indigestion anymore.

Thanks very much for clearing that up!  The beta blocker caused me a lot of other problems, but I never connected the stomach issues to them.

OK.  Well something to think about anyway.  I wonder if the pain you were having was caused by an inflammation or if just stomach pain, why there was pain, and if aspirin would relieve it.   If anything, it seems like aspirin would make it worse, but you never know....

Yes, I have been taking low-dose aspirin for years, at primary care physician's request.

Are you taking an anti-inflammatory, such as aspirin, for your post ablation treatment regimen?  I don't think I have ever heard of anything like that and cant think of a reason why that would happen.

At the time, I always thought it was heartburn.......but now I'm beginning to wonder if it was related to my heart problem.  My diet is pretty much the same as it's always been.

(Not complaining.....I will be saving tons of money on antacids from now on.)
