Post Op Ablation

so today has been extremely weird. I knew what was happening today, but it didn't really click, until we got to the hospital. so here is how my day has been. went to the outpatient doors, but they were closes to we had to walk all the way around to the front door. we ask the front desk about outpatient and she directs us to elevator D which we seemed to have walked forever, thanks to the lady at the front desk we went to the 3 floor using the D elevator only to get there and be told were in the wrong place. we turned around with new directions and got to the correct place. I was then told to go to the lab and get blood drawn and take a **** test.(which by the way i am terrible at. I didn't know to use the moist towelette to wash my lady bits before peeing the cup. and as I was getting ready I almost dropped the cup and in the process of catching it my finger went in, which was on the rules "don't touch the inside of the cup"} they took my blood and then I went back the outpatient area again and waiting. I was called lots of questions we asked. I changed into my gown and peed again. I then was hooked to to some machines, they took a quick ekg which I was able to keep the end piece that they were gonna throw away. Some lady asked to shave my lady bits, and since I'm not fond of carpet, her services we not needed at all. Then I was given a IV in my left hand, and my family was able to come see me. at about 130 they came for me and at the point i was shaking pretty bad. They rolled me down into the Stereotaxis Lab, and I must say that machine is sexy lol. I am unsure if they actually used it but I as in there just in case they needed too. Then began the stickers. because I am so tiny, (5'6, 101 pounds, 34-24-36) the stickers pretty much covered up everything on my chest, boobs, belly, sides. they were everywhere, big ones, small ones. cold ones and stinky ones. they took a quick xray with a penny taped to my back. They wrapped me to keep my warm. and then Bob started the drugs, I had Versed and Fetanyl, He kept telling me to stop talking and close my eyes, but with everything still going on I was curios about the things in the room. I talked a little more and again he told me not too and that was it, I was out. Next thing I remember was waking up in recovery, I cant recall if my family was all in there when I woke up or not. I was super tired, constantly nodding off, I had some hard time focusing on what my family was saying to me. I got some pizza and my fiance got me a bottle of root beer, I had my first bite of chocolate after 3 1/2 years. It was an Andes Mint. I had to pee really bad and since I couldn't get up and walk so I had to try using a bed pan...in which I laid on for about 2 hours trying to pee, and yeah its impossible to pee while laying down. At about 8pm my family left and at 9 I was able to get up and try to walk and use the bathroom. My right side incision site hurts really bad, the left is nonexistent lol. Half way to the bathroom my right side site started to bleed. The nurse told me there was probably blood under the skin and she apply pressure which was painful as all hell. From what my family tells me my problem area was really close to the natural pathway so they had to freeze it. With freezing there is a 7-8% chance my svt can come back. I can live with that. I was told not to take my digoxin today and I actually feel pretty great. I have no chest pains, I do have to stay the night but I should  be going home in the morning between 8-9. I had made cupcakes for my family as they wait and since we had so many Iv been offering them to the nurses and anybody I see. I feel so lucky to have such an awesome Dr, I am so thankful that I am now svt free. Its an amazing feeling.

Thanks so much delta and blimp, its just been so strange, now I just gotta worry a little bit about the incisions. I keep getting paranoid that they feel cold and stuff, but they are looking pretty good.

So happy to hear that things went well!!!  Please keep us posted on how the recovery goes!  It is a nice gift to not have to worry about the SVT anymore.  The body will need to adjust to life without SVT, and I think, in time, the mind will follow.  Congrats!

Thanks so much. I'm extremely happy I went through it, and yeah I had pizza and some weird fries.  Even better is that I don't have to take my digoxin and omg do I feel better. my heat intolerance is gone, I was outside today in the sun without feeling like I was going to die. and its like 83 today. and luckily i found a pair of super stretchy underwear that doesn't even hit my incisions. The dr. told me today that I am looking at a 90% chance that my svt will not come back. so I am very happy.

How exciting that it's over. You got pizza?  All I ever got was turkey sandwich. LOL But after going without food for a long time, it was wonderful. I had the piddle problem too. How can you lie flat on your back and have this big bedpan stuck under your backside which hikes up your hips and then be expected to go? I managed to get a little out but it followed gravity and ran all over my rear and back. Ick!

If you have some soft boxers, you can wear those to avoid pressure on the groin incision. Or wear baggy pants and go commando. It's going to be uncomfortable for a few days there so do whatever feels best.

Here's wishing you a happy heart.

Thanks tom, I did have some bleeding from my right side incision. and I had my first chocolate in 3 years I choose an andes mint, because I love mint chocolate and as for caffeine I don't know if I am going to have it now, if I do I'm going to have to ease into it because of my anxiety, about a year ago when I  drank a large reg, coffee from dunkin donuts, it was suppose to be  decaf but it wasn't and man did it screw with my anxiety so bad. and so far the only thing with my heart at this point is that it feels kinda shallow beat.which will take some getting use too. thanks for the best wishes

Excelllent news!  I'm glad you got thru it OK.  The leg is going to be sore for a couple of weeks perhaps and a large bruise may develop.  If you have a yellowish area now, it will most likely darken up.  It's over now.  That means dark chocolate, Coke Zero, Mellow Yellow Zero, regular coffee or tea....  I'm a caffeinne hound now!  Oh, expect some bumps, skips, and short runs of SVT for a while; all normal.  Keep us aprised of your recovery. Congrats!

It sounds like you had a good experience for the most part.  They told me not to eat or drink the night before and I peed before I went to the hospital so I wound up not being able to go.  They only do the test to make sure you aren't pregnant.  I had just had mine so I knew I wasn't but I had to sign papers saying they weren't liable since they couldn't prove I wasn't pregnant.  Well I am glad to hear things went well.  I will keep good thoughts that you remain svt free.  Rest up and feel better soon and try not to get spooked if you feel jumpiness for a while after.  Its pretty normal.  Stay strong and congratulations.
