I would trust the dr's then; a pacemaker is a great thing for many people and help stabilize heart rhythms; there are a few precautions depending on why it's being implanted and what else is going on in the heart
for a few weeks; depending on your dr and situation you have to be in a sling and keep the arm down
most things magnetic you're told to watch out for; but industrial equipt is a def no - I've read and been told magnets in headphones were strong enough to interfere so I would ask about that and I was shocked about target scannners but I'm more aware now since I know about them.
google icd support forum org and you'll find a great wealth of information there also; quite a few of us there have icd's with pacemaker's
hi, can you kindly share some experiences on having a pacemaker? is it dangerous? and a lot of things to avoid?
the doctor is suggesting to have a pacemaker for my nearing 2 yr old son because of slow heartbeat... it really pains me...
very greatful to anyone who can provide some info.
Thank you for your comments!
call the mfg of your PM and ask them, with today's technology & advancements there really isn't awhole lot you should have to worry about (it's in your book also - I think mine says - watch industrial equipment & magnets)
that being said...I read a report that showed the magnets in earphones for ipod's were powerful enough to interfere with pm/icd's when hung around the neck; but then there was an arguement that it didn't
I have noticed when I'm at Target, if I stand too close to the cash register, my heart races like mad. I mentioned this to the tech the last time I had my device interrogated and he said - sure it can happen if the magnetics in their system were strong enough; so be careful
may be best to ask your doc or even a pharmacist re that best to be safe
