Solvent Exposure and A-fib

Hello I am new.

Jan 12 2009 I was exposed to a high level of Naptha. The naptha cloud found an ignition source burning my head and hands. I developed my first episode of A-fib about a week after the accident. Since the accident I have had 3 more episodes of A-fib. My cardiologist says that it should have gone away by now, I am currently taking flecinide daily to stop the A-fib from returning. I would like to know if anyone has a case similar to mine or where to go to get more info.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll try the Related Expert Forums.

My cardiologist is kind of on the fence about the relationship between my arrhythmia and the solvent. At 32 I am not supposed to have these kinds of things happen. My heart looks completely normal, never had an issue EVER with my heart. I served in the Navy, so I have a good documented medical history to back up this claim. My point is that my MD acknowledges the possibility of a relationship, however not many documented cases like mine exist. On one hand, you cannot deny that something changed when I was in the fire. On the other, if its related to a chemical exposure why has it not disappeared yet? It might be permanent damage that was done...or it might be that i was predisposed to this A-fib. I just want to talk to someone with a chemical exposure to something in the ballpark of Naptha.

Thanks again for your replies.

This sounds like a perfect post for the 'Related Expert Forums' board.  On the right hand side, scroll down, look for Related Expert Forums and the Heart Rhythm board.  It is difficult to post a question, they take only a couple daily.  I'd also suggest you get a second opinion from a Cardiac doctor that specializes in Rhythm issues, your Cardiologist can refer you to someone, I'm sure.

Sorry to read of your accident with Naptha. You may get some experience here, but I can say I don't recall ever reading any post here that discussed heart rhythm problems related to solvents burning or not.

However, it is easy to believe that what you describe could cause heart and other vital organ problems - lungs comes to mind.  That and the fact your "..cardiologist says..." implies the doctor sees a possible correlation, or I misunderstand you reference.

You post is relatively new, hope you get some help from otheres.
