Switching from metoprolol to verapamil?

Hey guys, I am extremely confused.
A few weeks ago, my cardiologist switched me from metoprolol tartate 100mg/day to verapamil er 120 mg/day, for pvc's.
He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system.
I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
I've called and asked them about it a couple times but they just get irritated and don't explain as thoroughly as I need them to.
How does this work? Do I take 25 mg of the metoprolol in the morning along with the verapamil, and then the other 25 mg of metoprolol at night?
Do I take all 50mg of the metoprolol in the morning and the verapamil at night?
I don't want to slow everything down too much.
Help if you can please.
