Did the pain go away? How long did it take. I am facing the same pain in both thigh after the cardiac ablation that was performed on both sides. It's now two weeks and send to my GP who believes they hit nerves during the procedure.
I had this same thing after I had mine in 2004. I thought they must have somehow hit a nerve because the pain was the kind where nothing you try makes it better and it was going from my thigh down my leg. I went to the ER and they gave me pain meds. I took them for about 3 or 4 days and then the pain was gone.
I just had a catheter ablation 5 days ago to correct my svt. I'm having horrible pain in my right thigh area too. Went to cardiologist today and they said they probably hit a nerve but it will eventually get better. They struggled with the insertion of the catheter due to scar tissue from my previous ablation. It was so painful they had to put me to sleep. I woke up in the middle of surgery right as they were ablating two path ways. It was horrible!
I believe there is a nerve which lies very close to the puncture site. It might have been aggravated. Give it a week or so to calm down. I limped around for 2 weeks or so following mine.
I just had a hard ablation 5 days ago and I am experiencing the same burning sensation in both my upper thighs I asked my doctor about it he said he does not know why it's happening I understand how you feeling and I am going to follow it up with my regular MD.So far I am hoping my ablation was successful... I also hope you'res was a success also.. I will keep in contact with you to let you know if I find out why we have a burning sensation in your upper thighs good luck to you
I was put totally under during my ablation because I was "wiggly" they told me and wouldn't lie still. I didn't have any problems with my catheter insertion sites in my groin. What I had happen was once they were doing the ablation, they discovered my left pulmonary vein had a defect. It was supposed to be 2 veins, but there was 1 large one instead. They spent 10 hours ablating 95% of it and weren't able to do the other 5% or the right atria at all.
That night, I did have more episodes, several in fact. They came quickly, the nurses rushed in and told me to push down and they passed. I've had a few since then, but am still on my betablockers, so haven't had any long ones. My doctor told me we can't know how successful or not the ablation was until a 3-month period of "blackout" is over. This is the time he feels it takes the heart to heal.
I ended up back in the hospital the next day after I went home with fluid buildup in my lungs. I was given diuretics to take for several days and it seemed to take care of that. I think it's because I was lying flat for 22 hours straight. The first few days I was quite sure my ablation was a failure and was depressed about it. I realize now it was because I was tired, hungry, thirsty, and hadn't really known what to expect. This board saved me from despair more than once!!
I'm glad you're going to the doctor tomorrow. I have heard of several people who had pain at the insertion sites, and I'm sorry you are feeling this. I'm glad you reposted, those first days can be lonely without people around who understand what you're going through.
Here's hoping for successful procedures and feeling better soon!
Monie,
I had an ablation 5 months ago. You will have palpitations but tehy should get less an less as your heart heals. Your heart has just been through a rough and needs time to heal. I had episodes for a few months that I felt my svt start but would quickly shut down. My EP advised its just the heart trying to go back to the oroiginal path that is no longer there. Those episodes should lessen as your heart heals. My EP told me it could take up to 6 months to reach a full recovery.
As far as your thigh, my procedure and recovery as far as my thigh went was painless.
You may have some swelling in the tissue and that maybe putting pressure on a nerve. I would keep icing it and keep it elevated when possible.
Keep us posted. Hope you feel better!
Hi Mary
Thank you. I am glad you are doing so well after your Ablation procedure. Its great to hear of good outcomes. I have spoken to the doctor and he has told me to put a cold compress on the area and take stronger painkillers, then go back to the place where it was done. I will see my own GP on Monday as i was sent to a specialist hospital for the Ablation which is over 2 hours away.
Did you experience any palpitations after the procedure. I was told I would be aware of ectopic beats but today I have also had almost smaller svt spells, for about 10 mins a time 150bpm which is less than usual, as it was usually 263, i have a niggling doubt it hasn't worked as it took far longer and the consultant said it was more complicated and deeper than originally thought. I think he burned me about 6-8 times in all. He admitted if i had to have it done again they would give me alot more sedation as I unfortunetly felt everything.
I hope i will have as good a outcome as you
Thank you
Monie
Congratulations on your ablation! I'm sorry you are experiencing pain.
I had my ablation a month ago today and didn't get the symptoms you mentioned. I have had problems with my right thigh being numb and feeling "dead" sometimes. It's getting better though.
I encourage you to call your doctor or talk to his nurse. It sounds like you have something going on and when you're in pain---call for help!!
Hope you will continue posting as I'd like to know how you're doing after your ablation. I was quite uncomfortable the first few days with some complications, but a month out, am feeling amazingly energetic! Hope you experience that too.
Take care!

Thank you for answering so quickly. i think im just very worried as I don't know what is and is not normal. i was told about bleeding or a lump and to call the doctor just not shooting pains and burning. When the wires were being inserted they hadn't given me enough local anesthetic. I nearly jumped off the table as a pain like what im getting now shot down my leg then. Its the burning sensation that is the problem as it wont go. Again Thank you for answering so quickly.
Sorry to read of your troubles. I can't answer your question but will respond to let you know you post is being read. Further, I can say I have read many times that it may take a few months to determine if the Ablation was successful or not with the Rhythm problem.
The pain/burning sensation does sound to be unusual, but I think many have had some healing problems in the access areas of the body...hope someone will provide specific help.
I'm sure you are, but I'll say anyway, talk with your doctor about your difficulties.
