Where does the pain come from

I sometimes have had pain in my left chest, a sharp stabing pain, that doesn't stay long. If i pass gas the pain is usaly gone after awhile. So were does the pain come from if its just gas. And why high enough in your chest to think its a heart problem?

Well, if it is located up under your left rib....then you have splenic flexure.  I have it.  Nice, isn't it? There is a loop of bowel that goes up around your spleen.  In some people, gas bubbles get caught there.  Judging by mine, it is very innervated because it hurts a LOT while there.  I used to think it was a side sticker.   Now, it is so bad from having hurt for so long that I wake up nightly and have to turn on my right side and push it out with my hands to get relief.  It just gets STUCK!  Do you know I had to research this by myself?  My GI doc didn't even know what I was talking about, at first.

so, it can come and go as the day goes by? and its under my left nipple mostly

if this is all just gas related and their is pain down the left flank --or bloating it could be related to a bit of ibs ---if u read up on that it may fit the jigsaw if u have digestive problems as well.trapped gas can cause quite a bit of pain
