exercise after tachrycardia?

hi i was admitted into hospital a few days ago after a strong bout of tachrycardia. i have been home alot over school holidays and fitness levels have dropped! my son needed a doc app so i put him and his big sis in the double pram and pushed them to docs (its a strenuous walk without the pram!) by time i got there i was hot and shakey and heart rate all over the place. i kinda told the doc but he wasnt interested as it was my sons app. as i left i found it really hard to push the pram and decided to rest at the back of a shop and rang my husband to collect me, i was a shaking mess! heart rate high and shakey as. later i was rushed to hospital by ambulance with pulse rate over 145+ i was monitored over night and at resting it was still 90 so i couldnt leave till the afternoon the next day when it had dropped to a healthy normal. it was discovered i had had a temp that evening too of 38 which i didnt think was very high but they suspected a virus may have caused it. i have had tachrycardia in my past in which i was put on betablockers. i had been so healthy and my bp well low enough to come off them as my doc had recomended so i had a few months prior to this episode. now my question if anyone can answer is how soon can i exercise? my daughter starts back at school soon so i will need to walk up and down hills with her and her brother in a double pram!!! im terrified i could have a reoccurance of the tachrycardia! at the hospital the specialist said they believed i would not have a heartattack and what they could see on the monitors looked healthy it was just my heart was way too fast. the electric side of things also looked fine as they were looking out for a secondary thing?? but couldnt see it. they let me go home after my bp and heart rate was in normal range. they will do more tests an ultra sound and stress test just to make sure im ok in the near future im just so nervous about the whole getting my daughter to school issue! any ideas? do you think its safe for me to exercise? thanks :)
im female, 31 and not over weight, dont drink, dont smoke and eat ok :)

thanks heaps!!! iv had tachrycardia before but only a few times due to nearly loosing my nephew in which my heart started skipping beats while racing loads and it was so uncomfortable that they put me on beta blockers. another time was walking up a flight of stairs holding my son and it wouldnt calm down for ages after which caused anxiety to step in! they kept me in hosptial this time as the beats were irregular to begin with and the ambo thought id had a head injury or something. while i was there it would race fast then calm down. the hospital i was at was the best heart hospital in the southern hemisphere so was great being seen by them :) over night beats were fast but not scary and by luch time were 90, the doc said she worried that if i got up and walked around it could raise to 130+ which they werent happy about but by late avo it calmed down enough i could go home :) will definately get tests done! just to make sure. plus im going to see a chairo/natura path tomorrow to deal with this anxiety as its awful!!! and is hereditary so have seen the effects docs meds can have, am hoping to avoid them :) thanks heaps for the info on cold and clamy! had no idea about that part of heart stuff, i get like that if im having a full blown anxiety attack but usually heart doesnt go too mental but thats great info to know so thanks heaps :)

This does' sound bad to me. I'm also VERY surprised  that they admitted you to the hospital; a normal rate is from 60-100 beats a minute and if you are looking for the next level for a diagnosis it would START at 160 beats a minute. A heart rate of 140 after doing some form of exercise would be normal; if fact a cardiologist starts to get concerned when the heart rate will not go over 100 beats a minute with exercise. Anxiety plays a HUGE role in this, so try and just keep a check on that. Another thing you mentioned was that while you were having these attacks you were hot. If this were a truely heart issue that was serious, the exact opposite would be happening; you would have cold, clammy skin and you would appear very pale. If you are running a fever, your heart's natural responce is to speed up. Based on what you have written on here, I think you are probably just fine. Keep the appointment tests that are scheduled, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks heaps for your advice!! Wow 200s and 300s!!! That sounds terrifying!!! My heart rate at 145 felt scared enough! Uncomfortable too! I went for a walk tonight first time since getting sick and it went well. I had a bout of tachycardia this morn but It was really hot and I think anxiety added to it, fortunately it went away after about 20 mins and some tears! Was frightened I would get trapped again as I had many years ago severe anxiety where I was shaking with adrenalin for about 3 months only time I was ok was when I was able to fall asleep. The councillor later thought it perhaps was related to loosing my lil bro the year before and loads of other stresses, crazy how ya body works! Can feel like its ganging up on ya sometimes just to be mean!! Thanks so much for your calming words and time spent replying. Much love xoxo

I am actually a bit surprised they kept you at a rate of 90.  Normal is 60-100.  They may not even have kept you at all with the rate you presented at here in the States.  145 is really not a very dangerous rate though it can feel that way but your heart is a muscle and so long as the beat is a normal beat which it was the fastness is not a huge concern until it reaches into the 200s then there may be a bigger issue at hand and you aren't in any real physical danger until the heart rate reaches 300.  It does not sound like what you have going on is in any sort of a danger range.  I would ask your doctors advice but I would say you are safe to exercise just when you do it make sure you are well hydrated and try to make sure you breath deep when doing something overly strenuous.  These steps should help your body to deal with the physical stress better instead of the heart over reacting.  But I would say it is very possible you got the tachycardia due to your having the flu and being a bit dehydrated.  Being dehydrate will give me your type of sinus tachycardia every time and I have had both, sinus tachycardia and an accessory pathway svt where my heart rate would jump into the 200s on a beat.  But I think you aren't at any sort of a danger point but obviously if you find you well hydrate yourself and try to not push too hard and you still have these issues then I would say go and get a proper check up with your doctor.  Take care.
