coming off 25mg of metoprolol er??

Hey,

Just wondering how others got off metoprolol er? I was on 50mg for about 6 months, then was on 25mg for 6 months and my doc wants me to come off of it completely as I have had a reduction of PVC episodes over the months. Frankly, I'm looking forward to getting off of it as well, but have concerns.

Anyways, what did you do to get off of Metoprolol ER? My doc suggested taking it every other day for 2 weeks, but I'm a little concerned about this because I think I'm going to be up and down on the meds for 2 weeks, but I can't really think of a better way to come off of it because if I split the doses that will destroy the extended release properties of the drug and that wouldn't make much sense. I'm also on the lowest dose so I can't go down to a 12.5mg dose.

So, what did you do? Also, for those that have been on it for a couple months or more and came off of it, how was the experience coming off the drug?

Thanks!

According to my EP, metoprolol can be halted immediately, without ramping down.

Thanks for the response! I think a lot of coming off the drug has to do with the placebo effect as well. It can be very strong!

Neither my doctors nor I have had any problems with drastic changes (other than too many side effects with dizziness when increasing) with "cold turkey".

Using extended release I've gone 100 to 200 to 100 to 50 to none, these were not in a sequence to taper off the sequence was to see how my BP reacted going up, 200 was too much.

My experience, I'd stop in one step 25 mg with no concern.  Of course, whatever you were taking the med for may come back, but that's not a reason to try given you doctors recommendation to just stop.

Happy New Year, with good health
