Survived the flight with no PVC's....but...

I survived! and had 0 PVC's during the whole flight to and from NY (had a few in the taxi cabs though)....unfortunetely the trip has turned into a complete nightmare for my mom.

On Sunday night my mother and I went across 48th on Park Ave, (we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria) to Starbucks. (Traffic in that area is more then a nightmare)  On the way back to our hotel, my mother tripped and lost her balance in the middle of the street. She fell full force onto her rightside....it was the most aweful "thud" I have ever heard. By some angel unawares, the Secret Service had blocked off the street just seconds before (Foreign Ambassador staying at Waldorf) saving my mother and I from being run over.... but, we were sure that she had fractured several of her ribs. By Wed. night she had started coughing really deeply and I knew pneumonia was setting in. (I've broken my ribs on 2 separate occassions) I pleaded with her to go to the hospital there, but she wouldn't hear of it. (My mother is a very strong, spunky, and passionate women)  I immediately rescheduled our flight to leave early on Fri., Thurs. was booked solid, instead of the planned Sunday.
I spent the next day and night hovering and trying to make her more comfortable..
On Friday morning she was breathless, pale and was now also coming down with a full blown cold and a bladder infection to boot! I was beside myself and so scared! I just wanted to get her home!!

After landing back in Utah at 4:00 pm, I immediately called our family doctor and he met us at the after hours urgent care at 7:00. Sure enough, she had consolidation in the right lung where the ribs are fractured. He ended up giving her Levaquin, breathing treatments, steriods, tranquilizers, anti nausea pills, an inhaler, and a shot for pain and made her agree to come in 2 times a day to be checked. Sundays x-rays showed some mild clearing of the pneumonia, but I'm still a nervous wreck. Everytime the phone rings my heart starts flipping out and I can't sleep. I can't help but feel responsible (I suggested coffee and wasn't able to catch her fall because of the bags of bottled water I was carrying) and am terrified of the pneumonia getting worse.

My PVC's are raring their ugly head again and my IST is in full swing...but I'd gladly accept both for the rest of my life without another complaint if it would get my mom feeling better....

Best regards to everyone! Thanks again for all the support before my flight.

So sorry to hear about your mom.  I hope she feels better soon.  NYC is a trip.  Whenever we visited there I've seen Taxi drivers running red lights, driving on side walks, police doesn't care, people bumping into each other.  To hectic for me.

About your PVC's as you know its because of the adrenaline rush.  I had some adrenaline rushing events about three weeks ago and I am still suffering from PVC's, tons of them every day.  I was free of them for over a year.  Except maybe one a day here and then.

Wow.  I'm so sorry about your mom.  I am glad to hear that you are both home safe and that she is being treated.  The fact that the pneumonia is beginning to wane is good news and signals a step in all the right directions.

I really hate it when you make plans for something wonderful and it blows up in your face, as you said, "with the most awful THUD."  But it was an accident, and no one is to blame.  There is no going back and deciding for soda instead of coffee, and there is no opportunity to change your Mom's injury.  However, be glad there was an angel keeping the street free of traffic, and God bless you both for dealing with a difficult situation.

PVC's are always the worst AFTER the adrenaline rush.  The good news is, YOU MADE IT!!!  So, now you know that you CAN travel if you want...you've just got to stop having these little issues pop up when you go places :-).

Take care, we'll keep you and your mom in our prayers.

OMY goodness!!  I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's fall.  Cracked ribs are soooo painful and now with ongoing difficulties, you must be pretty stressed.  Your mom is in excellent hands now and back home, where she will be taken care of, and treated with TLC.

NYC is definetly FILLED with traffic and congestion.  It is a wonderful city to visit, but you have to be pretty rugged to navigate the streets.

Aside from the awful experience your mom had when she fell (which is NOT your fault), you made it to and from the Big Apple without pvcs!!  You know, they say "life is what happens when you're busy making other plans."  I REALLY do believe that!!   For now, just concentrate on helping your mom back to good health.  Just keep reminding yourself how much you really do have to be thankful for...Have a wonderful Thanksgiving - it'll just be a little different this year, but it will be OK.
