I survived! and had 0 PVC's during the whole flight to and from NY (had a few in the taxi cabs though)....unfortunetely the trip has turned into a complete nightmare for my mom.
On Sunday night my mother and I went across 48th on Park Ave, (we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria) to Starbucks. (Traffic in that area is more then a nightmare) On the way back to our hotel, my mother tripped and lost her balance in the middle of the street. She fell full force onto her rightside....it was the most aweful "thud" I have ever heard. By some angel unawares, the Secret Service had blocked off the street just seconds before (Foreign Ambassador staying at Waldorf) saving my mother and I from being run over.... but, we were sure that she had fractured several of her ribs. By Wed. night she had started coughing really deeply and I knew pneumonia was setting in. (I've broken my ribs on 2 separate occassions) I pleaded with her to go to the hospital there, but she wouldn't hear of it. (My mother is a very strong, spunky, and passionate women) I immediately rescheduled our flight to leave early on Fri., Thurs. was booked solid, instead of the planned Sunday.
I spent the next day and night hovering and trying to make her more comfortable..
On Friday morning she was breathless, pale and was now also coming down with a full blown cold and a bladder infection to boot! I was beside myself and so scared! I just wanted to get her home!!
After landing back in Utah at 4:00 pm, I immediately called our family doctor and he met us at the after hours urgent care at 7:00. Sure enough, she had consolidation in the right lung where the ribs are fractured. He ended up giving her Levaquin, breathing treatments, steriods, tranquilizers, anti nausea pills, an inhaler, and a shot for pain and made her agree to come in 2 times a day to be checked. Sundays x-rays showed some mild clearing of the pneumonia, but I'm still a nervous wreck. Everytime the phone rings my heart starts flipping out and I can't sleep. I can't help but feel responsible (I suggested coffee and wasn't able to catch her fall because of the bags of bottled water I was carrying) and am terrified of the pneumonia getting worse.
My PVC's are raring their ugly head again and my IST is in full swing...but I'd gladly accept both for the rest of my life without another complaint if it would get my mom feeling better....
Best regards to everyone! Thanks again for all the support before my flight.
