just out of the hospital

just out of the hospital

I had chest pains that made it impossible to sleep, somehow i dozed off awakend by chest pains on the left side only. Inot like sharp stabbing pain, more like a twinge, but still it hurt and kept coming and going but it did not stop so i went to the er. They took all the tests ialready had done but said my enzyme level was up so kept me overnight. I am still waiting to see an ep. doc on september 8th. They are all so over booked i can't get in sooner. Is it common for you to have chest pain with a lot of pvc's? I did see a cardiologist that released me from the hospital, and had told me not to worry about a little chest pain as it is not life threatening, and i do not have to come to the ER for this. What do you think? I also had my high blood pressure medicine changed to lopressor 50mg. twice a day, when i was taking lotrel5-20 for awhile and was told my pressure was fine. I was also put on Zestril 10mg. once a day. Please someone tell me what is going on, and if one is expierencing chest pain often do you think i should not go to ER to rule out a heart attack? I need someone to talk to. thanx hansonkay

Sorry to hear about your recent admission. When you mention the rise in your cardiac enzyme...which one was elevated? Was it the Troponin levels, CPK or CPK-MB? What did the cardiologist say about the rise in enzymes?

You were told not to come back to the ER for chest pain? That is ridiculous. I am a nurse and have been a patient more times than I'd like to count, but part of the discharge instructions for a patient is that if you are experiencing new symptoms or symptoms related to why you were hospitalized, you should return to be evaluated. I'm not saying that you should run to the ER for every little twinge you feel, but you are the best judge of what you are experinecing. Go with your gut instinct and do not hesitate because you were told not to come back. Keep us updated with how you are doing:)

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. I'm with Brooke on this.  If you are not feeling right or are experiencing any pain that is making you uncomfortable, I wouldn't hesitate to go right back to the ER.  You are the best judge as to how you feel.  Please keep us posted and know that I'm thinking aout you.

Thanks for commenting on my situation, I do not know all the medical terms, especially when it comes to you're heart. All i know is when i went to ER, I was told my enzymes were up so i would be spending the night. In the morining and every other time they took my blood they came back normal then i was released. feeling better, thanks. kay

Having your cardiac enzymes be elevated is cause to keep you for observation.  However, it depends on how much they are elevated, which ones are elevated, and if they stay elevated for the normal three times they check.  Also, they should never tell you that you shouldn't come to the ER for chest pain.  Unreal.  I will tell you a few things about what I heard about PVCs and chest pain.  I've never had pain with mine, but on another board I read, there are people that get severe pain with theirs (thank God I'm not one of them!) They are few and far between, but apparently there is a nerve conduction somewhere around the area and whatever is causing their PVCs also causes this nerve pain.  How awful would that be?  But, alas, they are still told to, "suck it up."  The thing about women and heart attacks is this; we don't present like men.  We cannot go by certain chest pains that radiate down the left arm, etc.  We are different.  There are women who never even have pain, just indigestion and they have massive heart attacks.  My point is only to say that if you feel something is really wrong, USE your ER and don't let them tell you otherwise.  Also, never let them make you feel like an idiot for coming.  I hope you are feeling better and that all you had was a little gas!  Whoops!

The ER doctor also told me not allow to complaint my heart there too.  Now I change the hospital.  My enzymes didn't elevate during my chest pain but the echo after that said MI and severe hypokinese.  Follow with the bad echo result, angiogram performed.  NO blockage at all!   I think the word "Sorry" is too easy to say by the doctor.  It hurts us and causes the permanent damage that no one able to repair.
