The gas thing is really interesting as I find myself with way more problems when I have gas and belch. Sometimes I belch so much I cannot believe I could have that much. My wife tells me I swallow air everytime I drink. I sometimes bring on skips if I clear my throat hard. For the last week I stopped taking fish oil and garlic and have been using Natural Calm which is a magnesium product. I've been almost skip free for a week however I don't want to get my hopes up as I have gone skip free before. My friend at the health food store told me that Natural Calm has helped a lot of her customers. What I do wrong is I stop and start several things which makes it hard to figure out whats working and wants not.
I'm having the same symptoms: tachy, skipped beats, acid reflux, hard to sleep, uncomfortable feeling around my diaphragm, anxiety. These occur when I eat a large meal or have lots of gas/bloating. I find the main culprits for bloating, for me, are raw garlic & onions.
Check out these discussion of the same symptoms:

Basically, I gather these symptoms can be explained by one or both of the following:
- Hiatal hernia
- Vagus nerve irritation
I also get the impression these are common and widely misdiagnosed conditions. Hope that helps someone. I am going to book in for some tests first thing tomorrow.
Hi ireno - good to read from you again, yeah I have acid reflux alot -due
to b.p meds I take - but have to take zantac 150 twice a day for that.
and now taking 2 gas x pills per day if I start to bloat up or belch .. burp
I just got out of the hospital had heart tests done and belly stuff too. due to palps happening. no problems found -other than normal pvc's .. palps
crezelda : I take potassium daily - and fish oil pills too ! along with my normal b.p meds - I mostly get the palps when laying down or resting ..
near sleep! it wakes me right up, and wrecks my sleep for the night .
Im pretty sure again I ate to late - like 7pm and if you sit around lay around watching tv or movies .. it can start up without warrning ..
flutters or palps start - mostly however if I sit or stand they stop !
and take my b.p meds as normal. yes they suck bad !
I stand anything and take anything , but palps drive me nuts !
melatow
ive been trying to eat at least one banana a day for the potassium, and now im getting only a handfull a day unless im PMSed, then they still suck. not a magic cure but it shuld help in theory, as potassium helps your conductivity
Rats, Boogie. I'm sorry you're still having trouble with all this. Excuse me (burp) :-) if I don't remember but do you have stomach problems like an ulcer or acid reflux? I agree with you that avoiding food a few hours before bedtime might help. The esophagus runs right along the vagus nerve and any stimulation there could be adding to your troubles. That's why vagal maneuvers like burping, holding a big breath and bearing down often help stop tachycardia events. All those parts are so close together and interact to some degree.
I hope you're having a better day today.
I belive that gas works hand and hand with palpatations - I woke up twice now early a.m
with burping gas, as I made the misstake of going to sleep after eatting. and now im haveing slight palpatations - im due to take my b.p meds within a few mins -so know it will stop, with the meds intake. so now I wont eat anything past 5pm and will make sure
I dont fall asleep before 8pm at night. see what happens ?
I slept last night for the first time in 2days. as between side effects from b.p meds and also interfearon that takes forever to get out of my system. I couldnt sleep a wink !
I passed out last night and snored untill this a.m. then awoke with palps going slight and gas burping and belching. its uncontrolled burping - and I dont like it .. but oh well .
better out than In .. so they say !
my next step very soon will be to see my cardiologest , and maybe a gas doctor
as I wish to clear up ,if a receptor is damaged near my heart or on my heart ..
that turns the heartbeat signal wrong or backwords. or as the cardiologest said it takes
the signal that says slow beat and makes it go fast !
well it has to be looked at .. and treated
but I belive its more of a gas issue pushing on the heart or around the heart
causing the palps to happen !
thanks all im done
update on my condition 1/1/09
my doctors changed my meds to atenonol 50mg per day, I didnt do well on it ,though it slowed the palps down - I started taking with drs approval - verapamil at 225mg and 25mg atenonl . along with zantac 150 twice a day as needed. did ok ! but b.p dropped
to low like 119/ 71 pl 65 - not normal for me - dr put me back on verapamil daily at
325mg with a small diretic pill , well after a few days the palps stopped totaly. felt good
again !! woopee normal feeling - then I came down with a flu a bad one !! im now nearing the end of the flu - and out of knowhere, the palps restarted again ! along with a large amount of gas (both ends going ) I took 1/4 of b.p pill to stop them -so far so good !!!
but the gas wont stop ! where did it come from ?
well folks - its a new year ! and I hope and pray this one will be better to me..
as 2008 cancer showed its ugly head - and then palps returned after years none ..
I dont understand this !
just dont know anymore.. im fed up and tired and just want to lay down and sleep .
yet I cant !
thanks Jerry for the info : it could be true, as far as eatting fast or swallowing air while eatting foods ! as I get bloating belly conditions and burping each and every palp .. I eat
most blan foods, but will try to eat slower and with a tight mouth ! lol ..
I take verapamil and also atenonol daily - together these work in stopping some of the palps and keeps the b.p down to normal levels.
I tryed not taking any b.p meds before - while palps happened, they just got worse ! and
didnt stop !
im wondering if perhapps, the b.p meds could cause gas , or gas bulid up inside me after taking them ? you never know with medications, as they could be the root cause
and I wouldnt know it ?
well thank you again for all the info
time will tell - hope these palps go away forever !!
I hate them !
Sounds to me like you may be eating something, or maybe just swallowing air when you eat, and it is bloating you stomach...giving you gas. Try a very bland diet and eat food slowly, swallow slowly when not breathing in through you mouth.
I don't know if that would help, it may be worth a try.
Are you an any heart medications? Sorry if I overlooked something you've already said.
I have PVC's from time to time as well. I've found no way to stop them or lessen their occurrence. They just do what they want to do. They drive me nuts as well and give me panic attacks at times. I can't work, in fact. I get so scared of having PVC's at work and not being able to run away that I am unable to keep a job long. I sure hope you find some peace somewhere. It's true, they aren't harmful. But that doesn't make me feel any better about them.
