Skipped beats are rarely a sign of heart trouble. A lot of us here on this board have hundreds of thousands per day with healthy hearts and no ill effects.
"Are palpitations a sign of heart trouble? I have them daily. "
Not necessarily. Many people with perfectly healthy hearts still experience palpitations. In such cases, the palps are totally harmless.
On the other hand, those with deseased hearts will almost always suffer from palps.
I suggest that for peace of mind you get thouroughly checked out by a cardiologist (stress test, echo, ekg, blood work, etc.). Likely, the diagnosis will come back normal, meaning your palps are harmless.
Good luck.
I recently mentioned to my family doc that I think I have palpitations once in a while and asked if they were dangerous. He told me that palpitations are not usually harmful or even a sign of trouble and can actually be a pretty normal experiene. He said some people even feel dizziness with the palpitations and some may feel like the palpitation "took their breath away" for a second. He told me that he has as many as 3 in a row sometimes and he is in excellent physical shape. He said as long as they pass quickly and don't come with chest pain or other cardiac symptoms they are probably harmless. Sometimes I feel like my doctor talks too much, but he is very thorough and explains things very clearly. I would only suggest you talk to your doctor about it, but offer this info as piece of mind until you see him/her.
