palpitations/nicotine?hangover

i am very worried, whenever i drink and smoke, the next day i have palpitations, all day. i have to practically sedate myself with tylenol pm to get thru the day and i certainly cant leave the house. i also have panic/anxiety attacks, so that compounds the problem. i know the answer is not not drink and smoke and i am doing this to myself. but i am just wondering if the nicotine and alcohol is causing this, it scares me.

I have the same problem almost every time i'm hungover and right now i'm experience'ing this for the second day. I also am at work today, having a 12h workday so.. I also have anxiety and panic disorder and it triggers it pretty often. i have called the ambulance twice here at work for that reason and many more times home. I had a dry january and it was great, now february started and i drank til the morning with my friends and now i'm suffering the conseqences. Enough, next party is also with cups of teas again, i think i have to stop. Reading your stuff is a little bit encouraging ir how can i say.. it's good to know that i'm not the only one having this stuff and i just have to assure myself over and over again that it is not dangerous and it is due to alcohol, not something physical in the first place.

I am 27 years old and I have exactly the same problems. I gave up smoking and hardly ever drink anymore because of this. I'm so freaked out by it, feels like I'm going to die sometimes. Now mine I am sure was self induced because I abused drugs of all kinds in my younger years and had stoped for a few years and got my act together and one night for my birthday I took some dmt its kind of like acid. well I overdosed and thought i was permanently fryed.  really scary feeling. took some xanax to come down after 12 hours of tripping. then a few weeks later drank a whole bottle of whiskey and drank no water and the next day at work my truck broke down and was stuck in a 100 degree cab for 3 hours. this was it my body broke. I had a heat stroke and had to go to the hospital.  I recouped quickly but I have never been the same since. I can't do anything now without panic attacks and feeling dizzy or feint. My life has changed forever and I kick myself for abusing my body. never know what you have till it's gone right. dont know how similar anyone's situation is but after reading so many stories this happens all the time to so many different people in so many different ways. it has actually been a blessing in disguise because I used to think I was bullet proof and nothing could hurt me.  I lost my first marriage to alcohol and this has forced me to become a better person.  I watch everything I do now for fear of hurting myself so no more abusing drugs or alcohol or even fatty foods. I will palpitate if I consume to much fat and oil. lol almost looking my life has maybe been the best thing i have ever done. good luck to everyone I hope my story can reach you guys and maybe help you understand what's going on with your own bodies.

Suffered this for 27 years and gave up smoking but still like a drink.
by keping a diary of what i do and what happens the next day i found my body limits which for me are 3 drinks max but if repeated next day it gets me so the rule of three was born. a couple of weeks ago i had a brilliant thursday night - broke all my rules and ended up taking friday off work with horrible PVCs!!
No more than three drinks on any one night and only repeat every three days - so if I have a drink on Monday night the next one will be Thursday or I pay the price.
I have no problems with coffee its just alcohol and definitely smoking which i had to give up as there was no rule for that.
So see if you can find your bodies rule and still be able to enjoy yourself.!!

I would like to add to the comments of CollegeGirl.  Suspecting your alcohol and nicotine use is causing these problems has nothing to do with "habits." They are addictions, and you must know addictions are your health concern, not heart palpitations.  Withdrawing from these drugs is also a likely source for anxiety and panic attacks.  That is why addictions to these drugs are so serious.  Please know I am not being judgemental.  I do encourage you to do what is necessary to get this under control, whether it is a 12 step program like AA or any other support program to help you get healthy.

Hi, I'm 27 and have had exactly the same problem which started in the last year, mainly just with alcohol though as I don't smoke much. The day after I have really scary palpitations and sometimes panic attacks triggered by this. I am in the middle of investigating it with doctor. So far had ECG, predictably normal, and going on 24 hr ECG in a couple of weeks. Plan to get drunk the night before so that it will induce the palpitations whilst being monitored, sods law says it won't!

Absolutely they could be causing your palpitations.. They are both known triggers.. If you havent already been examined by your doc for your palps and anxiety issues, do so.. Also, begin the proccess of quitting the smoking and making sure the drinking is done only in moderation.. As you stated, you already know that correcting these habits would be beneficial
