I take my Atenolol in 1/4's of a 25 mg. tablet 3-4 times a day. I keep track of my bp and hr and if they are too low I delay the next dose. If I took 25 mg. at one time my bp would drop like a stone. You really need to check with your doctor. Maybe he would work with you to determine a better dose for you or possibly another med.
Hi there, I can totally sympathize with you. I actually posted here myself along the same lines. My heart rate has been in the 40-50"s this past week. I take propanolol because I was diagnosed with SVT, where my pulse goes into the high hundreds. The resting rate is low tho, and my bp was high, but this past week it is also really low. I have tried cutting back on the propanolol, which was only 30mg, and now the Dr. told me tonight to stop it all together and see if the heart rate goes back up. If not, I have to go in and get tests done. If it does, then I'm to just stay off of it, unless my heart starts racing again. I am very symptomatic too, dizziness and chest pain. My resting heart rate used to be around 80. I tried drinking caffeine today, it didn't do much. I'm having bad anxiety over this. If your only taking Atenolol for the bp and not heart rate, there are other meds out there that can lower just bp and not heart rate. Do you have a Dr. you can call, the one who put you on it? I hope you find some relief, as I know exactly what your going through.
