After his episode and was converted back in the hospital, was he put on a blood thinner like coumadin? They would have to evaluate his condition to decide his course of treatment. Good Luck to you both.
the older we get the more at risk we are of an arrythmia starting, what sort of arrthymia has he developed? there are meds for these arrythmia but these also set off other arrythmias and sometimes dangerous,
You didn't give enough information to disclose what arrhythmia you father is suffering from. But, at 80 he is in the age population that arrhythmia is more common... i.e., is age related.
Many of us, myself included, suffer from Atrial Fibrillation and have undergone numerous cardioversions to regain normal sinus rhythm, only to again slip back int AFib. If this is the case and the symptoms are very troubling, then an ablation might be the answer. In my AFib case the symptoms are mild, so I live on with AFib taking medications to slow down my heart rate and warfain to reduce clot formation and possible stroke.
