Why does your doctor put you in so much pain and not want to give you pain medication? The doctor said i would be on treatment 2 or3 years and i hurt so bad that i dont think it's worth it anymore.I was in remission for one year and it came back 5 times worse.this is my first time taking pegis and it make me hurt more than the interferon injection 3 times a week.my gastro doc doesnt believe in pain meds so what do i do??? I also have other medical problems that cause pain but treatment is the worst! I also get all the symtoms i will be bald in 2 months.if i find a doctor to give pain meds whats the best to take so i can have some quailty of life?

"Some gastro doctors think Pain meds are to hard on the liver such as Vicodin, It's no harder on the Liver than Tylenol though, As long as you take the recommended dose, I guess the logical answer would be "Find another doctor", Regular doctors are very cautious about prescribing pain meds, You might have to see a pain specialist, I heard they are more sympathetic?

yep look at all the pain clinics in FLA   ,then look at all the pathetic addicts buying them from patients .   you didnt mention if you had past "problems" w opiates .but most primary drs are anti pain med .and liver drs even more so [mine is }  ,and being an ex addict ,i am glad . what they suggest is pretty much all you get . I dont judge anybodys amount of pain ,because some are " legit " . you may be suffering .,and frustrated [
other wise you wouldnt have taken the time to post }.  also  strong or stronger pain meds wont help w 75% of side affects   depression , deyadration  ,nausea  ,hair growth . there are alot of ways to beat back pain .    good luck

Have you inquired about something like Tramadol (Ultram)?  It's supposedly a non-narcotic pain reliever, by prescription, that contains no Tylenol and seems to ease the muscle aches and bone aches.

The point of the treatment medication is to keep the levels of the Pegasys and the ribabvirin at consistent levels.  That's why there is a shot every week (on the same day each week) and why you take a certain number of ribabvirin each day.  Staying on the medication schedule is critically important; every shot and every pill on time.  I see by your journal entry that you are on week 4 and you have already taken a week off from both the Pegasys and the ribabvirin.  Since you are treating for the third time you should have no expectation of success by treating part time.  If the pain is keeping you from continuing now it's reasonable to imagine that you will not be compliant with the treatment meds all the way through treatment.  Since you are unable to get pain medication that will allow you to continue treament then I see no point in continuing the treatment until you are prepared to do so.  Why torture yourself for no reason?

I'm not a doctor (just about the farthest thing from it) and I'm not pissed off that you didn't take your meds last week.  Whether you take the meds or not is entirely up to you. I treated twice myself and I know how tough it can be.

Ultracet is NOT Ultram.  Ultram does NOT contain Tylenol.  Get your facts correct!!! Ultracet is Ultram + Tylenol.   Ultram is Tramadol period - NO TYLENOL!!!!

I surfed and copied/pasted for your benefit.....
_____
GENERIC NAME: tramadol
BRAND NAME: Ultram
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Tramadol is a man-made (synthetic) analgesic (pain reliever). Its exact mechanism of action is unknown but similar morphine. Like morphine, tramadol binds to receptors in the brain (opioid receptors) that are important for transmitting the sensation of pain from throughout the body to. Tramadol, like other narcotics used for the treatment of pain, may be abused. Tramadol is not a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) and does not have the increased risk of stomach ulceration and internal bleeding that can occur with NSAIDs.
PRESCRIPTION: Yes
GENERIC AVAILABLE: Yes
PREPARATIONS: Tablets (immediate release): 50 mg. Tablets (extended release): 100, 200, and 300 mg.
____________________________________________________

Ultracet combines tramadol hydrochloride, a leading prescription pain reliever, with acetaminophen, the most commonly recommended nonprescription pain treatment. Clinical trials demonstrated that the combination offers better pain relief over either medication alone. In the trials, Ultracet consistently began working faster than tramadol alone, and pain relief with Ultracet lasted significantly longer than with acetaminophen alone.

-----Tramadol gives you constipation/stomach problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So skip them and go for lortab/vic,-------

All opiates can cause constipation. Lortab/Vic’s are Opiates

Don't ask me how I know.

Because of constant headache for 4 months I´ve got tramadol then the head ache dissaperd without I had to take any but about two months later headache come back and I was on tramadol the last 24 weeks of tx.

I felt very good  mentally on them but my stomack has been a mess just starting to get better and I havn´t been taking any for 5 and 1/2 month now.

Thx for notifying me on this must been the tramodol, after my first tx 3 months post my stomack started to function better than in 20 years that was such a relief, going to the bath room was  a real pleasure for once.

I didn´t took any tramadol on first tx.

Still I´m glad I had them last tx don´t know what tx would have been without them.

Tried Tramadol many years ago when it first came out. Back then it was expensive and ineffective (for me anyway). It is probably cheap now, but I doubt it works much better. Adding Tylenol probably helps, but I wouldn't think it would bake a big difference for significant pain.

Good luck.

It is much cheaper now as it comes in a generic form.  It works well if you take it on a regular basis and stay on top of the pain.  I can't take any narcotics because they are too addictive.  When I have significant pain, Tylenol doesn't cut it for me and I also am not able to take NSAIDS either.  So for me, it's either daily Ultram or nothing.  And YES, I KNOW, Spcecst2, it causes constipation, so don't even go there again, PLEASE!!  All pain relievers will cause constipation, it's a given.  When my back, or my knees, or my right upper quadrant hurt so much that I can barely walk a step, I see no reason to suffer when there is a medication that I can take that I know will take the edge off of my pain and enable me to function.  It doesn't zonk me out so much that my speech is slurred, that I am "high", but helps me to keep a handle on the pain.  Susan400
