5 shots left!! WOO HOO!!

Yes 5 shots left and then were finished with this awful treatment. We recently had to be prescribed the shot called "Nupogen" due to a significant low white blood count and platelet count. This treatment has been difficult but I'm just truly blessed that it did it's job, that alone is enough to be thankful for. We've been doing much better since my last post. Gotten into counseling and really relied on our faith in God to guide us. Right now we've been told for him to have little contact with other people as much as possible because of his low white blood count as he could catch infections much easier, so we've just been staying in. Other than that the doctor says he looks great considering. Were both counting down the days until this is over. I just want to thank you all again so much for encouraging me when I get down and giving me as much information as you can about this virus and the treatment. It's such a blessing to have people like you all to come to for support :)

I have autoimmune neutropenia. The condition exisited even before treatment. I wash my hands when I inject, and try to clean as best I can while on treatment, but I don't think you need to go to extremes in avoiding contamination.

The problem is not as significant as it is in cancer patients.
Relax you'll be fine.

Ah, I am happy to hear that counseling has helped you two :)
It is a good idea to avoid germs, when the white blood cells are low, but that doesn't neccesarily mean "staying in".  You can still enjoy taking short walks outside, in nature, etc.
I always washed my hands, after touching public door-knobs, and avoide touching my face, with my fingers.   I found that I would easily catch a stomach bug, if I went out to a restaurant, even the good ones.
It is always cleaner to eat at home, where we know we have washed the veggies well, and avoided contaminated surfaces..plus, who knows if the chefs wash hands after using the restroom?
   Keep up the good work~
