Heyho! Just wanted to say I went through the same thing after getting SVR, had a drinking "binge" - by that I mean I drank 2 glasses of wine one night - I think it was the excitement of reaching SVR and the fact that I hadn't had a drink for years. Of course, I had a reaction to it and didn't feel so great. Time has passed and I have also come to the conclusion that I'm not that fussed about drinking. I think I will always allow myself a sip or two for a special event but it won't be figuring in my life much. I feel great about that decision! Now I want to stop smoking...
Glad to hear you are doing well!

This is something to think about when negative people are doing their best to rain on your parade. So remember this story the next time someone who knows nothing and cares less tries to make your life miserable.
A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:
" Rome ? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty.. You're crazy to go to Rome . So, how are you getting there?"
"We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser.. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome ?"
"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste."
"Don't go any further.. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant.
Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."
A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome.
"It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class.. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot.
And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.
Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me."
"Oh, really! What'd he say ?"
He said: "Who the F**k did your hair?"
Alcohol is the gateway drug that is for sure. And yes if alcohol caused relapse we would all be done for, in the end while we can't party like rock stars most people do have an occasional toot - alcoholic and sober or not. We'd all be goners (or at least the percent of people losing SVR would be more than the ZERO NOTHING NADA that it is).
Thanks for that vote of confidence, well know for sure im not reinfected with C.If i remembeR, they said i had the antibodies to the B virus when i first tested back in 2006so i guess this means im protected from the B virus as well,i think i even had the freakn A too...sheeese...what the hell...simple as ABC eh?
Don't worry Rocker. You have your SVR, and unless you get reinfected you are DONE with HCV.
I agree that alcohol is as dangerous as any other drug. You know what you have to do, and you are strong enough to do it. Hang in there!
jd
Yes,this is good to know that alcohol does not cause the virus to return, can you imagine the number of relapses if it did...we would all be back to square one again,i actually think alchol is the worst drug of them all,it breaks down our inibitions big time and we are wide open for all kinds of evil thinks just waiting to take a foot hold....as fas as im conserned alchol should be illegal
You know the answers Rocker - on all counts. And believe me, a lot of us know how hard it really is but if drinking on the weekends is worrying you - you know what to do about it too.
But don't worry about relapse - that isn't a consideration you are cured and SVR does NOT go away. Thank God.
mikesimon may want to have a word with you ;)
"today is my last drink FOREVER". Why not make yesterday's your last?
Thank you for your advice, when i finally got my SVR i celebrated and now its been slowly getting carried away, today is my last drink FOREVER...and yes,i am feeling very quilty and totally ashamed of myself,i have 5 years clean an sober just before i SVRed...time to jump on the wagon of life and go for the ride i was made to do...life is so much better without alcohol...for all of you out there that cant wait to SVR and have that drink....let me tell your all for the horses mouth,,,,its a waste of time, money and LIVE--R
You already know the answer to that Rocker. How long have you been on this forum and have you ever heard drinking causes relapse? What it causes is liver disease to progress more quickly. Wasn't the purpose of this post more of a testimony because you're feeling guilty about the drinking?
If you don't have much liver damage, a few drinks will not hurt you. If you have abused alcohol in the past, stay away from it altogether. An alcoholic can't drink one drink just like a coke head can't snort one line.
I'm sure you'll be SVR, but the other is up to you.
